Critical Question: What motivated Shakespeare's characters in the tragedy Macbeth?

Assignment

Your task is to adopt a role of a character from 'The Scottish Play'. In role, you are to complete THREE requirements using this Wikispace.

A) Character Page
Create a "character page" that introduces your character to the other members of the Wikispace (see "Sample" page). You may elect to add/modify the page as we progress with the project.

To create your "character page":

  1. Click on "New Page"
  2. Type in the name of the character assigned to you in the box beside "Page Name"
  3. Click the template named "Character Page"
  4. Add information to the page about your character. The headlines are only suggestions --- feel free to be creative. The goal is to make a page that projects to others using this Wikispace how you see the character you elected to study (hint: think like you're making a facebook page for your character).
  5. Click "Save" when you're finished the "character page". You're encouraged to revise the page as we progress with the play.

B) Blog
After you have read/studied each Act, use the "character page" to add a blog. The blog should be written in role and reflect the content of the Act from the perspective of your character (hint: think like you are in their shoes). Be sure to include quotations from the play in your blog (you may find it easier to use quotations from other characters than those belonging to your character).

To create a blog:

  1. Click on the "character page" you created
  2. Click "Edit"
  3. Add a "Horizontal Rule" (click the icon beside the bullet icon) below the character information.
  4. Type a blog for the Act you have currently finished reading/studying in class.
  5. Click "Save" when you're finished writing your blog.
  6. Add a blog as per above for each Act in the play.

C) Discussion
Read the other character pages and blogs belonging to your Wikispace after we study each Act of the play. Reply to the other characters by using the messaging function that is part of the Wikispace (The messaging function allows members of the Wikispace to send and reply to each other.). Responses should not be written in role as the purpose is to give your peers feedback to help them revise their blogs as necessary. Responses should be approximately a paragraph in length and may included:

  • constructive criticism;
  • suggestions for quotations;
  • interpretations about your character and the on in the blog; and/or
  • editing comments.
